Do you love the idea of crafting short hairstyles — from classic to edgy — as part of a supportive barbering community? If so, you may be a great fit for the Nathan Layne Barbershop Academy barber program! This is not your grandpa’s barber school in Twin Falls. Our program combines classroom instruction with hands-on experience from industry pros to help students launch their careers.
Already a licensed cosmetologist? You can fast-track your training to become a barber with 800 credited hours toward the 900-hour program.

Barber Program Overview
In as little as 30 weeks, barber school students can complete our comprehensive, 900 course hour barber program — and become a licensed barber in Idaho.
Step 1:
Introductory Coursework
During the introductory theory coursework of professional program, we’ll cover topics including:
- Haircut and shaving techniques
- Facial hair grooming
- Scalp treatments
- Anatomy
- Sanitation and infection control
- Customer service
Step 2:
Hands-on Training
After completing coursework, we quickly get clippers into students’ hands to begin practicing and build skill and confidence.
STEP 3:
Build Your Clientele
With the guidance and oversight of an experienced, licensed barber, students begin working with customers in our full-service salon — with access to Nathan Layne Barbershop Academy’s full line of hair and beard care products. Students can begin building their client base while they complete training.
Cosmetology to Barber Transfer Program
If you already have cosmetology training and want to expand your services with barber skills, we offer a fast-track cosmetology-to-barbering transfer crossover program. Over this 100-hour (5 week) program, you’ll master the additional skills for your Idaho barber board exams — without wasting time sitting through theory and general beauty skills you already know.
