Already a licensed cosmetologist? You can fast-track your training to become a barber with 800 credited hours toward the 900-hour program.

Enrollment Requirements
We want all of our students to graduate, obtain a license, and successfully launch their beauty career of choice. That’s why we require the following documentation for enrollment:
You’ll need to provide the following:
- Completed application form
- Letter of recommendation
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma, GED, or transcripts
- Any applicable name change documents (like a marriage license or divorce decree)
- An application fee of $30
- A registration fee of $70
Entrance Essay or Project
We also ask student applicants for an entrance essay, project, or video. This is your time to let your creativity shine and tell us why you think you’re a great fit for Nathan Layne Barbershop Academy.
We accept many formats for this entry essay or project — from traditional written essays, slide presentations, or a YouTube video!
What Should I Include In My Essay/Project?
In your essay or project, please answer these questions:
